About this role

Overview of Responsibilities

The individual will form part of the APAC Corporate Tax group and be responsible for tax accounting and compliance matters for BlackRock corporate entities in the region, which include preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, tax provisions and corporate tax returns, as well as implementation of appropriate controls and processes.  The role requires partnership with global stakeholders to address tax regulation changes as well as to align with BlackRock’s global tax operation model.

Primary areas of responsibility include:

  • Assist in the preparation of corporate income tax returns and other tax filings (e.g., withholding tax, stamp duty, etc.) for BlackRock corporate entities in APAC.
  • Collaborate with Global VAT Operations team in the preparation of indirect tax returns for corporate entities in the region.
  • Analyze and review financial information to explain trends in effective tax rates.
  • Assist in handling tax audits, appeals, litigations and ad hoc tax queries from tax authorities.
  • Assist with monthly and annual tax provisions and various tax reconciliations.
  • Perform month-end close activities, including preparation of journal entries under US and local GAAP set of books.
  • Support statutory audit in respect of tax expense items by providing relevant supporting in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders from time to time to facilitate and carry out of daily responsibilities.
  • Perform any other duties as per evolving requirements of the business and/or tax authorities.

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, analytical, and proactive in identifying and implementing process change which helps in driving increased accuracy, improved internal controls and greater efficiencies.  Additionally, the candidate should be able to flourish in a fast pace and growing environment.

Experience and Skills

  • University degree and/or professional qualification(s) in accounting and/or tax.
  • Over 6 years of experience in handling tax accounting and direct/indirect tax compliance matters.  Knowledge in tax matters for Southeast Asia, Australasia and/or the Greater China regions would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience in tax provisions under US GAAP and IFRS.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Oracle and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Consistently attentive to detail while meeting critical deadlines and handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills with sound judgement.
