Job Purpose:
The Associate Director APAC Revenue Accounting is responsible for the accounting of Networks and DTC Ad Sales, Distribution and Content Revenue. The role will initially lead the accounting over the APAC Discovery networks & DTC with the expectation of increasing responsibility over time. This position will work closely with various region leads to ensure proper revenue recognition. This role is a key leadership position within the APAC Controllership organization.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the APAC revenue accounting team of approximately 8-10 employees located in Hyderabad, India. Oversight responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, ensuring all deadlines are met, providing career and professional development/coaching to team members, ensuring complete and accurate revenue accounting for various markets and products, performing technical accounting research on ad hoc issues, and implementing process improvements to drive operational efficiencies and effectiveness.
- Ensure revenue is accounted for correctly and in accordance with ASC 606 US GAAP, and any local statutory reporting accounting principles as required. Accounting requirements include properly recording revenue, agency commission, agency incentive, rep commission, bad debt expense, deferred revenue; complete and accurate financial statement presentation, including BS, P&L, SOX controls and SEC disclosures; assessing accounting treatment for non-standard agreements.
- Participate in the review of standard and non-standard customer contracts, as needed, to assist in the determination of proper revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and Company policies
- Lead discussions with internal and external auditors for revenue recognition related matters
- Provide leadership and management of key system and process integrations in the revenue accounting area over the next two to three years, especially as it relates to the recent merger with WarnerMedia and ERP initiatives.
- Establish and build relationships with key stakeholders in Finance, Shared Services, Business and Legal Affairs, and other areas. Leverage experiences to grow into the subject matter expert and deliver high quality direction and advice to the business in related space. Key role in the definition of new deals in the region
- Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- At least 10 years of work experience in an accounting role and a strong understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and SOX requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role
- Accounting leadership experience in media & entertainment industry desirable
- BS/BA in Accounting/Finance role from an accredited university
- Qualified Chartered Accounting
Desired
- Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA a plus
- Big 4 Accounting firm experience a plus
- Demonstrated background successfully leading a large accounting team, including teams located in differing international offices
- Attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office
- Ability to meet deadlines under pressure
- Adept and capable of effectively managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Embraces change driven by evolving business initiatives and maintains positivity when time-sensitive milestones shift
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively with cross-functional team members at all levels
- Experience implementing best practices that require significant innovation for improving processes by applying advanced understanding of complex functional/technical and business issues and challenges
- Ability to anticipate resource requirements and to adjust based on emerging issues and priorities
